Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs King George Hospital, Goodmayes, requested LEEC Ltd conduct a condition report of the existing Mortuary to assist with their business case for renovation, which included replacement body stores and preparation area, the latter of which was to be used for cleaning and tissue retrieval.

The updated project involved a significant increase in body storage capacity and a facility for bariatric patients within a refrigerated bed store with removable racking.

The tissue retrieval area was based on the LEEC embalming suite and fully compatible with a tray transfer system to reduce manual handling.

LEEC worked closely with the Trust, architect and design team for the final scheme and equipment was installed in 2021.
