Ventilated Dissecting Bench Solutions For Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust

To design, manufacture and install three ventilated dissection benches for the Adult Histopathology Laboratory at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

The Brief

To design, manufacture and install three ventilated dissection benches for the Adult Histopathology Laboratory at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

The Project

LEEC were appointed to provide three suitable dissection bench solutions for a Histology Laboratory at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. The benches installed featured height adjustment, downdraught ventilation with a low-level alarm, tapware, macerator as well as removable perforated panels and a formalin dispenser.

The Downdraft Dissecting Bench is designed to draw air down through the worktop and pull toxic vapours away from the workspace area. The dissection work area features removable, fine perforated ventilated panels with corner finger holes to allow easy removal for cleaning without additional tools.

The low-level alarm on the dissecting bench sounds if there’s any obstruction during the ventilation process. This informs the user to pause during the dissecting process and to ensure any relevant steps are taken to fix any issues.

The benches are manufactured in 316 stainless steel to support corrosion resistance and ensure longevity. The material is chemically inert and won’t react to the use of cleaning chemicals during the disinfecting and cleaning process when used in the prescribed strength and standard operating procedures.

LEEC Ltd are world leaders in pathology, mortuary & laboratory design and pride themselves in listening to the client’s requirements to find the best solution available for the site layout and end user operational strategy.

The equipment that LEEC provided were as follows:

Testimonial

John Hayes, Directorate Manager commented ‘Approval was provided to utilise the previously unused laboratory space within the Histopathology Laboratory at Oxford Road Campus to create a new dissection room and three new dissection benches. We reached out to LEEC who worked through our requirements to provide a bespoke option that met our needs. It was important the new benches were ergonomic, included built in formalin dispensers and macerators. Despite working alongside a full redevelopment of the laboratory space and the usual delays it brings; LEEC were able to deliver and install benches in line with the overall project plan. The team are utilising these new benches as the dissection capacity of the department doubled; enabling the service to manage the increased volume of demand. I would recommend LEEC to anyone looking for additional dissection bench capacity within their laboratories or replacing current equipment’
